CMCH to receive new hi-tech MRI machine from the US

Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) will soon get an advanced MRI machine.

The new machine will be able to carry out scans on four to five patients at a time. According to a senior official of the state Health department, the new MRI machine will be imported to the city from the USA. The CMCH is the first state-run hospital in the state to get such an advanced technology based machine.

Patients visiting the hospital for MRI scans would be able to avail the services of the machine completely free of cost. It will be immensely helpful to patients visiting the hospital from the districts. Hospital authorities have already submitted a project report to the state Health department. The hospital has been awaiting the Health department's nod for the acquisition of the machine.

The new MRI machine will be installed at the CMCH through a Public Private Partnership. Senior officials of the medical college believe that the new machine would be immensely useful as it is able to conduct scans on multiple patients at the same time.

There is a huge queue of patients at the hospital as a result of which patients have to wait for many days to get a date for an MRI scan. Around 2,000 patients regularly visit the Out Patient Department of the hospital, among whom many have to undergo an MRI scan. After visiting a doctor, an emergency patient has to wait for the date for his MRI scan to be completed before treatment can proceed further. The installation of the new machine will help in reducing the queue. The services will be offered free of cost.
