RPF arrests one for involvement in inter-state rly ticket racket

Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Tuesday night arrested a person involved in inter-state railway ticket racket. The accused was identified as Sanjoy Santra, resident of Jyotishpur village at Basanti in North 24 Parganas. He was taken to Sealdah court.

RPF officers followed the accused person who was trying to sell tickets to some passengers in rail stations. On Tuesday, Santra was caught red-handed by the officer with many reserved tickets and cash from the platform of Baruipur rail station.

"We have seized seven reserved tickets, Rs 11,000 cash and some other documents from the person. The person has been involved in this illegal trade for years. We conducted raids to arrest him," a RPF officer said.

The accused person used to get in touch with his clients in different rail stations in South 24 Parganas – Diamond Harbour, Canning and Sonarpur.

It will be recalled that Railway Protection Force unearthed a racket involved in purchasing rail tickets through fake IRCTC accounts and selling them to passengers at a premium rate last year. The owner of Greenline Travels, Indrajit Chowdhury (56), was arrested in this connection.

Later, RPF had informed that only registered travel agents can book tickets for customers through the IRCTC site. Chowdhury was not registered with the railways.

The RPF team from Sealdah had raided the travel agency's office at Jessore Road in Barasat and arrested Chowdhury. RPF found 15 fake personal user IDs that he used to book tickets in different names.
