This year's engineering result has been published by the WBJEE Board within 43 days since the conclusion of the examination. Around 1.18 lakh candidates appeared for the engineering examination. It may be mentioned here that the WBJEE Board did not conduct the medical entrance examination as the Centre has been implementing the national level single entrance examination, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for filling up MBBS seats in various medical colleges.

The counseling for filling up the engineering seats at different engineering colleges would be conducted from 23 centres across the state. Next year, the state joint entrance examination for engineering is likely to take place on April 22.

Among the top ten rank holders, six are from CBSE board. There are around 18.7 percent candidates who have found place among the first 10,000 engineering aspirants. Around 57 percent of candidates who have passed the examination are from CBSE and ISC. Among the first 10,000 candidates, 9 percent candidates are from ISC.

Irin Ghosh the only girl student whose name has featured in the merit list said that she never expected that she would rank second in the merit list. She said that her parents contributed greatly for achieving this result.

"School teachers also supported me immensely. I used to solve various problems and this had helped me in obtaining good marks. There is no alternative of relentless self study," Irin said.
