Fake doctor Ajay Tewary was remanded to the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) when produced before the Bidhannagar Court on Sunday.
Tewary was arrested on Saturday evening on charges of claiming himself to be a medical practitioner without having the required qualification.
The CID officers had been collecting documents to ascertain whether Tewary is a fake doctor or not. They had also collected several documents from Kothari Medical Centre as well.
A senior CID officer said that they had arrested him only after becoming hundred percent sure that Tewary didn't have necessary qualifications to be a medical practitioner. He didn't appear in the MBBS examination as well.
"Sometimes he is saying that he is a trained pilot and after half an hour he is claiming himself to be a homeopathic doctor. He also said that he was a commerce student and having Bachelors of Commerce degree. But had failed to show us documents that prove any of the three claims of Tewary," said a senior officer of CID adding whatever he could be, he is not an MBBS doctor that he used to claim in order to practice in Kothari Medical Centre as a gastroenterologist.
"He claimed himself to be a homeopathic doctor but failed to provide any documents which show that he is having a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) degree," the officer said adding that they will be asking Kothari Medical Centre authorities to provide some more documents related to Tewary.
In a communiqué, the Kothari Medical Centre stated that the news of fake degree of Tewary has been a big shock for them. He was working as a visiting consultant and not as a full timer with the private medical centre. He was appointed in 1996 by the then management and he had then claimed of having MBBS degree under Assam Medical Council.
The hospital authorities had asked all its doctors including Tewary to get registered to West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC). Tewary had stopped coming to the hospital after he was asked to get himself registered under WBMC.
