Locals ransack police outpost over 'tyranny' by OC in N 24 Pgns

Some local people ransacked Kadambogachi Police Outpost and damaged police vehicles at Duttapukur in North 24 Parganas on Sunday evening protesting against extortion by its Officer-in-Charge.
It was also alleged that he had beaten up a daily wage labourer for discontinuing the repairing work of his house at New Barrackpore.
Local people came to know that the OC had summoned Kala Halder, the daily wage labourer, at his office and beaten him up mercilessly for not carrying out the work. The OC allegedly didn't listen to him that he was ill and not in a condition to work. The daily wage labourer was admitted to Barasat Hospital with severe injuries on his body.
The mob gathered outside the police outpost to protest against the incident. They also raised their voice against the OC for collecting money from vehicles that ply on the roads under the jurisdiction of the police outpost.
The mob suddenly went inside the outpost and ransacked furniture and other valuables. Four persons including two policemen were injured when the mob attacked the police outpost. Rest of the policemen including the OC fled from the place in a bid to save their lives.
The mob also damaged police vehicles. They were found damaging cars and motorbikes. Two cars and motorbikes were damaged. Later, a huge contingent of police was pressed and the situation was brought control.
Police pickets have been deployed to avoid further deterioration of law and order situation in the area.
Bhaskar Mukherjee, superintendent of police of the district, said: "They have been asked to submit their allegations in writing and necessary steps would be taken if their allegations are found to be true."
