In another incident of medical negligence, a private pathological clinic in the city has allegedly transfused blood of a different group in a patient.
The patient, Asit Karmakar was taken to Sanjibani Private Limited, a private pathological centre for transfusing blood. A resident of Thakurpukur area, Karmakar was undergoing dialysis at Vidyasagar Hospital in Parnashree. He was taken to the hospital on Sunday morning.
He was soon sent to the pathological centre for transfusing blood. The victim's wife has alleged that he was transfused B+ blood while his blood group is A+. The incident had triggered tension at the pathological centre after the woman shouted at the doctors after she came to know about this serious medical negligence.
The victim's family members have lodged a complaint in the local police station on the basis of which police have started a probe. Mithu Karmakar, the victim's wife alleged that as the transfusion process started at the pathological centre, the patient started feeling a pain in his chest. She informed the matter to the doctors but no step was taken. After around 100 gm blood already transfused in patient, his wife found that he was being given blood of a different group. The victim's wife immediately attracted the attention of the attending staff members of the pathological centre.
As a result of this incident, the doctors there started pushing water measuring around 2.5 litre into his body to neutralise the effect of the wrong blood group. He was again admitted to the Vidyasagar Hospital where he has currently been undergoing treatment. The wife of the victim later lodged a complaint in a local police station alleging negligence against the private pathological centre. Police have already started a probe and are interrogating the officials of the pathological centre in this connection.
