Father who threw acid on daughter's lover found hanging from tree

The father of a girl who hurled acid on the face of his daughter's lover in West Midnapore's Ghatal on Thursday was found hanging from a tree at Damodarpur on Sunday. Police were conducting raids to arrest the accused father as he had escaped from the spot soon after the incident.

The local residents saw the man hanging from a tree and called up police to take necessary action early on Sunday. Later, the police identified the person as Rabindranath Ghosh, the accused of the case in which he had hurled acid on the face of his daughter's lover on Thursday.

"Primarily, we suspect that the accused of this case Rabindranath Ghosh committed suicide by hanging himself from the tree. But we are waiting for further details," said a police officer.

The acid victim youth, had received severe injuries and was taken to a city hospital on Thursday. He is still admitted there and is fighting for his life. Police learnt that the victim had been in a relationship with a local girl for the past three years.

The victim was called in at the girl's house on Thursday evening. He was invited by her family to discuss their relationship. However, her family members allegedly started to beat him up upon his arrival and suddenly, the girl's father threw acid on his face.

The family members of the victim had alleged that they were informed about the incident late on Thursday night. The youth was covering his face with a cloth. His mother saw his injuries after unveiling his face when she informed the police about the incident.

The police later arrested Rabindranath Ghosh's wife and called up his daughter in the police station for interrogation.

Police came to know that Ghosh, an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, was annoyed about his daughter's relationship with the youth. He had earlier allegedly threatened him to stay away from his daughter.

The investigators found that the youth had received death threats from the girl's father earlier as well. The assailant was probably waiting for the right opportunity to kill the youth. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's mother, the police started an investigation.

In another case, miscreants hurled acid on a sleeping couple in South 24 Parganas Gopinathpur on Saturday night. The acid victims were taken to Kulpi Belpukur Primary Health Centre. The doctor and the health staff of the health centre later informed the police that the victim woman is pregnant and her condition is critical than her husband. Police suspected that it was a case of attempt to murder. A rivalry between two families might have been the reason behind this murder attempt.
