Birbhum district police found crude bombs at a place near Bataspur in Sainthia on Sunday. The incident took place just a day after police found drums full of crude bombs from Birbhum's Labhpur on Saturday.
The local residents in Bataspur found a drum near the railway track. They called the police after seeing the bombs kept inside the drum.
Police called up the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) to defuse the bombs. Investigators suspect that local criminals kept the drum there anticipating a raid by police.
This is the fifth such incident where crude bombs were found in Birbhum recently.
Birbhum district police accelerated their efforts to capture illegal arms and ammunition after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave a stern warning
recently at the district review meeting to enhance vigilance and check bomb-manufacturing, particularly in sensitive areas.
"We will continue raids to seize explosive materials from the district. Local villagers are also helping us to seize such crude bombs," said a senior police officer.
Police earlier arrested Sheikh Yaar Mohammad Khan, one of the prime accused in the arms racket. Investigators got important information from Khan about illegal firearms and crude bomb manufacturers.
The district police recently seized four containers full of crude bombs at Kankartala and arrested a few people in connection with the case.
Nine people were killed in an explosion that took place at Darbarpur village in Birbhum's Labhpur a few months ago. The Chief Minister was worried by the incident and instructed senior police officers to investigate the matter carefully.
