Tea Board of India announces production stats

The Tea Board of India announced the 'Production of Tea 2016-17' on Friday in which the organisation said that tea production has reached its highest ever peak in the Indian tea industry. Bengal is one of the major contributors in this growth.
The Tea Board has calculated the production of tea in India for 2016-17 and arrived at 1250.49 million kg as against 1233.14 million kg last year, which is an increase of 17.35 million kg over a period of one year.
"Production has increased by 1.41 percent," the Tea Board said in a statement.
The production in North India increased substantially in June, September and November as compared to the corresponding period last year. Thus, the overall
production has increased in 2016-17.
Production in North India increased by 34.55 million kg, of which Bengal is a major contributor with 27.69 million kg.
"The North India production has increased by 3.43 percent and the contribution of Bengal is 8.40 percent," the press note said.
On the other hand, production in South India decreased by 17.20 million kg. In the South, Tamil Nadu is a major contributor with 17.82 million kg.
The Share of Estate and Bought Leaf Factory (BLF) production across the nation is at 64.94 percent and 35.06 percent respectively as compared to 66.15 percent and 33.85 percent during the corresponding period last year.
