Sex worker found murdered at rented home

A sex worker from Sonagachi was found dead with her throat slit inside a rented house on Durga Charan Mitra Lane on Thursday morning triggering tension in the area.

Police said that the victim, identified as Seema, aged around 25/26, had been living in a rented room situated on the second floor of a building for past six months. According to the preliminary investigation, police said that the victim was originally from Bangladesh. The local people told the police that the victim had gone missing on Tuesday. The other inmates of the house also told the police that they heard a quarrel at the room of the victim.

The owner of the house received a telephone call from an unknown number on Thursday morning when the person on the other end told the landlord that a girl has been murdered inside a room. The matter was immediately informed to the police. Meanwhile, some of the inmates of the building found that the victim was lying on the floor of her room. The room was locked from outside where her body was found lying. Police reached the spot and started a detailed probe. Police found that the victim's throat was slit. Police suspect that another Bangladeshi man, who used to come regularly to her room, might have been involved in the crime. The accused, who used to spend some time with the victim, is a fruit vendor who has been at large since the incident took place. Local people saw the accused on Wednesday in the locality vending fruits near the house where the body was found on Thursday. The homicide section of the city police's detective department also visited the spot. The investigating officers are making a sketch of the suspect and are trying to trace the whereabouts of the accused.

They are also going through the cell phone number from which landlord received the phone call. Police said that the death has been caused due to a throat slit injury and manual strangulation. Police are talking to the local people to draw a sketch of the fruit vendor who often visited the victim in her room.

Police have started a detailed probe in this regard and are conducting raids to nab the culprit. The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained by the police.
