Three held for planning dacoity

Police arrested three dacoits when they assembled at Trinathpalli in Salt Lake on Wednesday night with a motive to run away with valuables from some houses in the posh area.

Acting on a tip-off, policemen from Bidhannagar South police station conducted a raid and found at least seven to eight people gathered in 19 Bigha playground in Trinathpalli.

Finding the police approaching to catch them, some of them managed to flee. But police chased and arrested three members of the gang. The three of them are Ali Asgar, Md Nausad and Md Rafique. Asgar is a resident of Tangra and the rest of the arrested persons are residents of Ghuni in New Town.

Police recovered a sickle, iron rods and a tool to break locks from the accused. During interrogation, they confessed that they had assembled with a motive to run away with valuables from some houses in Sukantanagar and Trinathpalli. They also told the police that one of the members did a recce of the area and had chalked out the entire plan of committing the crime.

The arrested youth were accordingly contacted by the kingpin and asked to assemble at the playground where the police had conducted the raid.

It may be mentioned that the police had taken several initiatives to check such incidents in Salt Lake. Last year in July, an incident of dacoity took place in the house of a businessman at CE Block in Salt Lake.
