HS results declared, Hoogly boy makes it to the top with 99.2%

West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education published the result of Higher Secondary Examination 2017 on Tuesday in which the pass percentage in East Midnapore district was recorded as the highest at 92.87 percent. The total number of candidates who had appeared in the examination was pegged at 7,56,620, out of which, the number of the successful candidates is 6,22,435.

Meanwhile, Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi congratulated all the successful candidates as well as their teachers and guardians of this year's Higher Secondary Examination. He also wished them a bright future ahead.

"Those who couldn't succeed in the exam have no occasion to lose heart for this one exam does not determine the entire life. They should remember that success is not far away," the Governor said.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also congratulated the successful candidates. "My congratulations and best wishes to all the students who have passed Uccha Madhyamik examination. Wish all of you a bright future," she tweeted.

Hooghly district's Archisman Panigrahi, a student of Hooghly Collegiate School stood first in the examination securing 99.2 percent.

Hooghly's Mayanka Chattopadhyay, a student of Mahesh Sri Ramkrishna Ashram Vidyalaya (Higher Secondary) stood second securing 98.4 percent along with Upamanyu Chakrabarty, a student of Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya (residential).

Hooghly's Subham Sinha, a student of Arambagh High School and Surajit Lohar, a student of Bankura Zilla School stood joint third in the merit list securing 97.8 percent.

Manjistha Saha, a student of Bidya Bharati Girls High School in Kolkata stood sixth in the merit list securing 96.8 percent. Manjistha is the topper among girls.

Adarsh Agarwal from Shree Jain Vidyalaya in Kolkata stood fourth in the merit list securing 97.2 percent. Adarsh obtained highest marks in Kolkata.

"The pass percentage is 84.20 in which 85.15 percent male candidate and 83.26 percent female candidate passed this year. The pass percentage has increased by 0.55 percent from the last year. The pass percentage of women has also increased by 1 percent from last year," said Mahua Das, president, West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

Like Madhyamik examination, the pass percentage of East Midnapore district recorded highest across the state. East Midnapore is followed by West Midnapore (89.61), South 24 Parganas (87.62), Hooghly (87.56), Kolkata (87.37), Howrah (86.27), North 24 Parganas (84.77) and Nadia (84.60).

There are 53 rank holders from first to tenth, among whom, 40 candidates are males while13 are females.

"Schools can get mark-sheets from the distribution centers. Online review system, scrutiny and spot correction facilities are also available," said president, West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education adding that the council has uploaded a webpage on scholarship for poor students.

Schools across the states were seen crowded with students and their anxious parents to collect the mark-sheets. The toppers on the other hand, received good wishes from their friends, relatives and neighbours.
