Fake doctor row: CID quizzes Unani council officials over fake certificate

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday interrogated two senior officials of the State Council of Unani Medicine in connection with the arrest of fake doctor Naren Pandey.

The investigating agency went to the office of the council on Monday and interrogated some of the officials. A CID officer said that the officials of the council were summoned at Bhawani Bhavan after discrepancies were found in their statements during interrogation on Monday.

During Tuesday's interrogation, too, the investigating agency found discrepancies in the statements of the officials.

It may be mentioned that Pandey had claimed during interrogation that he had a Unani certificate that allows him to continue as a medical practitioner. But investigation revealed that the registration number that he had provided to the Belle Vue Clinic to work as a doctor was different than the one he had printed on prescriptions and other documents.

During interrogation, the investigating officers asked the officials of the Unani council to reveal that how Pandey had managed to get a certificate to carry on as a medical practitioner.

The officer said that the interrogation on Tuesday continued for hours and if needed they will be summoned for questioning again.

It may be mentioned that the CID had initiated the a probe after a complaint with the Bidhannagar police station and came to know about the fake certificates of Pandey.

The investigating officer further said that there are some more people who will also be summoned for questioning in this connection.

The investigating agency is also looking into the financial aspects. It may be mentioned that Pandey had taken a loan of Rs 1 crore from a private bank and they are also probing to ascertain how the money was used.

The investigating officers are trying to find that if any more such fake doctors are still working in the state or not. They have interrogated the officials to know whether there are any more fake doctors who have got fake certificates.

The CID officers are also trying to know that how Pandey had managed to get a certificate of his wife as a BHMS doctor.
