ER launches safety awareness prog to prevent mishaps

Eastern Railway has launched a massive campaign to create awareness among the people about safety.

Harindra Rao, General Manager, ER along with Satish Kumar, additional GM, Gautam Banerjee, Chief Safety Officer and other principle heads of departments released level crossing gate safety leaflets and safety hand bills to spread awareness about safety measures and precautions to be taken while passing through level crossings, at a programme held at ER Headquarters at Fairlie Place on Monday. ER will observe Level Crossing Awareness Week from May 29 to June 2.

Despite repeated requests and warnings from the railway authorities, some people still cross level crossings when the signal is green, resulting in accidents.

Rao released an LC gate safety photo with a message, safety cards with calendars, caps and sun-guards for the safety campaign to strengthen the observance of precautions and other aspects of safety at level crossing gates among the people.

He also flagged off the journey of 'Sanraksha Chetana Yaan' (a road vehicle displaying messages on safety) from ER headquarters on Monday to spread awareness about
safety measures while crossing LC gates.

This vehicle, equipped with a public address system and safety related booklets, hand bills and leaflets will move through different stations and LC gates over Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol and Malda divisions of Eastern Railway.
Eastern Railway will also organise quiz competitions, video shows, Nukkad Natak or street plays, etc. at important places and stations across ER's jurisdiction throughout the Level Crossing Awareness Week for public awareness.
