Anwesa Pyne, the Bankura girl who topped this year's Madhyamik examination, wants to become a doctor and shape her career accordingly.
"Recently, my father died. He wanted me to become a doctor. I will try my best to become a doctor to fulfill my father's wish," said Anwesa, a resident of Junbedia, a village in Bankura.
The villagers were visibly happy on Saturday when they saw her on the television screen after the declaration of the result.
Anwesa could not believe her own eyes when her name flashed across the television screen, declaring her as the topper among over 10 lakh candidates.
"I thought I would get good marks but this result is really unexpected. I want to dedicate my Madhyamik result to my father," the first girl said.
Apart from concentrating on her studies, Anwesa often indulges in recitation, singing and dancing. "I spend most of my time studying. But I am also interested in singing, dancing and reciting," she said.
Relatives and neighbours gathered at Anwesa's home on Saturday, soon after she appeared on television. Her mother was with her while the first girl was busy talking to the visitors.
"The local MLA, members of Panchayats came to our house and they spoke to me. I am really happy that these people visited our home," Anwesa, a student of Vivekananda Sikshaniketan High School, said. The topper also expressed her gratitude to her teachers.
"We are proud of Anwesa. The overall result that we have achieved this year is also good. Our headmaster
deserves the credit for this success," said a teacher.
"My teachers always encouraged me to sit for mock tests, which helped me a lot. It was only my school teachers who helped me study," said Anwesa.
Anwesa stays away from social media. "I do not have a Facebook account and I do not want one either," she said.
