The state Health department has alerted all hospitals on the backdrop of incidents of arrest of fake doctors in the state and would take further necessary steps on the basis of the findings of the probe that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is conducting.
Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of State for Health, said in the Assembly on Friday that CID has busted the rackets and all state Health
department officials have been alerted about this.
"We are worried. CID is further investigating the matter. Let's see what are their findings and subsequent steps will be taken in this connection," she said in reply to a question of Trinamool Congress MLA Tapas Roy.
It may be mentioned that a few months ago, the CID had busted a newborn baby trafficking racket in which some doctors were also found involved while again in another case, fake doctors were also arrested.
In reply to another question, Bhattacharya said, in a bid to ensure better health facilities for the people of Maynaguri, it has been decided to upgrade
an existing hospital to a rural one and the work will be started soon.
There will also be a mini mother child hub in Maynaguri. The state government has taken steps to set up four mini and nine major mother hubs. At present, six out of the nine hubs are functional and they are at Uluberia in Howrah, Murshidabad Medical College, Nadia District Hospital, Calcutta Medical College and Hospital and Bankura Sammelani Medical College. Three more will come up at Jalpaiguri District Hospital, Midnapore Medical College and Cooch Behar District Hospital by the end of this year.
The four mini mother child hubs will come up at Maynaguri, Anupnagar in Murshidabad, Sujapur and Silangpur in Malda.
There are 250 beds in each of the major mother child hubs while the mini ones have 50 beds each.
