ER GM reviews safety measures

Harindra Rao, General Manager, Eastern Railway reviewed safety measures in a high-level meeting of principal heads of departments at ER's headquarters at Fairley Place on Wednesday.

Divisional Railway Managers of Sealdah, Howrah, Asansol and Malda attended the meeting through video conference.

Rao directed all DRMs and Principal Heads of Departments to immediately enhance the night inspections and asked them to be more serious and careful when it comes to rail safety.

Goutam Banerjee, Chief Safety officer, presented the safety scenario at ER, saying that it was a matter that required the immediate attention of divisions as well as major departments like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

Rao asked the divisions to emphasise on the safety front, which is one of the most sensitive and high priority issues.

He made it clear to all concerned that no compromise will be tolerated as far as the safety of passengers is concerned.

He also advised better coordination between divisions and all the principal heads of departments. All issues concerning train safety operations and passenger amenities should be discussed and sorted out on the short-term basis for immediate redressal and on the long-term basis for a permanent solution.

Safety issues for both this year and the last were discussed in detail in the meeting. The progress of safety related work was also reviewed. Rao directed all the attendees at the meeting to adhere to the safety norms and to ensure safety in all operations of the railways.
