200 bombs recovered from Birbhum factory

The police on Wednesday unearthed a bomb manufacturing factory in Birbhum and recovered 200 live bombs. The recovery of crude bombs took place within 48 hours of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee instructing Birbhum district administration to take stern action against bomb manufacturing factories. In the past few months, a series of bomb explosions have taken place in Birbhum which have claimed nine lives so far. Acting on a tip-off, officers of Kankratala police station raided Barara village and found the bombs which were kept in four plastic containers. As a result, bomb disposal squad was deployed to defuse them. Following this, police have begun their investigation but no one has been arrested yet. Speaking at the administrative review meeting, the Chief Minister had said that criminals from Delhi, Monghyer and other areas were coming to the district. She instructed the police to take stringent action against such criminals.

After Banerjee left the district, senior police officers held a meeting and raids were conducted in different areas of the district. Banerjee had also warned Kajal Sheikh that he would be arrested unless he gave up violence. In another incident, police seized crude bombs in Jainagar.

The bombs, wrapped in plastic and kept beside a garbage vat, were later defused. Police are investigating if the same materials have been used to make the bombs that have been recovered from South 24 Parganas and Birbhum.
