NKDA revs up e-governance, services now just a click away

New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has come up with e-governance in a big way to provide better municipal services to all categories of stake holders at their doorstep.

Submission of application as well as receiving of related certificates or license will now be just a click away. It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given special emphasis on e-governance and the state government has opened a new department with Chandrima Bhattacharya as the Minister of State (Independent charge).

NKDA has initiated a project to converge the services it provides with the e-district portal of the state government in collaboration with Webel.

Initially, five G2C e-services have been made functional. These services are — trade licence in case of new applicants and renewal of trade licence, mutation, and registration of death and water connection. Earlier, to get these services, the applicants had to spend several hours in the offices of NKDA.

When the application is made, the applicant will get an sms message informing the person that the application is being scrutinised and another text will be sent when the document is ready for dispatch. In order to register death, a person will have to give the scanned copy of the certificate issued by the crematorium or burial ground along with a copy of the death certificate given by the doctor. NKDA will verify the scanned documents and then register the death.

The applicant will get every bit of information regarding the movement of the file. The portal is available 24x7.

The submission of application will be made through Internet/CSC or kiosk (help desk). Instant status updates will reach citizens/stakeholders through sms or email which will be of immense help to them. Also, NKDA will be able to track the person dealing with the matter and in case of any delay he will be asked to explain. There will be scope of auto generation of acknowledgement slip with unique application identification number.

Debashis Sen, chairman of NKDA, said this system would improve efficiency and ensure a seamless hassle-free bouquet of municipal services for all categories of stake-holders.

Fully equipped kiosks/helpdesks will also be made available with two officers of NKDA to assist those less acquainted with computers and its accessories, for submitting applications or getting hard copies of the certificates.
