Two held from Murshidabad for smuggling narcotics

Police have arrested two persons on charges of smuggling narcotics. The incident occurred at Gopinathpur area under Islampur in Murshidabad on Monday morning.

The accused have been identified as Oaidur Islam and Tahsin Seikh. The police have recovered around 20 kg of ganja from their possession. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused might have been a part of a smuggling racket that has been operating from the district.

Police came to know that the accused would be passing through the area and subsequently, made an elaborate plan to conduct a raid in order to nab them. Police officers were waiting at a predetermined location and caught and arrested the accused red-handed.

Police suspect that the accused might have been smuggling narcotics to Bangladesh. During the interrogation, police came to know that there were some other persons involved in the racket and the authorities are now trying to find out the names of these people.

Police also came to know that the two suspects were residents of Kesabpur area in Murshidabad. They are interrogating the men to find out who had engaged the duo to smuggle the narcotics to another country.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused were a part of an international smuggling racket whose job is to smuggle various narcotic substances from one country to another.

The district police had a few months ago arrested some persons and recovered a huge amount of narcotic substances from their possession. Authorities are investigating if Monday's incident is in any way linked to the previous case. Police have started a detailed probe into this matter. They are conducting raids in various parts of the district on the basis of the information gathered from the interrogation to nab the other persons involved in the smuggling racket.
