Last victorious BJP Councillor from Pujali municipality joins TMC

With the only remaining victorious Councillor of BJP joining Trinamool Congress, Pujali Municipality is left with no Opposition.

Out of 16 seats in Pujali, Trinamool Congress had bagged 12 seats, two seats were with the BJP while Congress and an independent candidate had won in one seat each.

Interestingly, both the Congress Councillor Nirufa Nazir and independent councilor Rinku Routh joined the Trinamool Congress within a few hours after the election results were announced on Wednesday. Sources said that with these two Councillors joining Trinamool Congress, the two BJP Councillors had also started expressing to their close ones their wish to join the Trinamool Congress.

Finally on Friday, within 48 hours of the announcement of the election results, one of the BJP Councillors joined Trinamool Congress. Rumpa Ghorai, the BJP candidate who was elected from Ward number 9, took up the flag of Trinamool Congress in her hand and joined the party leaving only one Councilor of BJP in the Opposition.
The only remaining Councillor of BJP in Pujali, Chinmoy Barui also decided to join the Trinamool Congress to be a part of the development work undertaken by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and contacted the party leaders.

Barui was elected from Ward number 3 and senior leaders of Trinamool Congress in the municipal area handed him the party flag. With Barui joining Trinamool Congress, the party now has its Councillors in all the wards of the municipality. It may be mentioned that in Domkal Municipality, Trinamool Congress candidates have won in all the 21 seats. The joining of their Councillors in the state's ruling party is a major setback for the BJP as they failed to keep their Councillors in their party despite their victories from two seats in Pujali.

According to political experts, the Councillors joined Trinamool Congress as they want to be a part of the development work that the present government has taken up for an overall development of Bengal.
