Father gets electrocuted, son tries to save him; both lose life

In a tragic incident, a father and his son died after being electrocuted. The incident occurred at Asan Nagar under Bhimpur police station in Nadia.

The victims Sachin Pal (52) and his son Sarojit Pal (28) were potters. Local people said that Sachin died after being electrocuted and his son died in a bid to save him.

It was learnt that the electricity meter box room collapsed due to wind that struck the district on Wednesday night. The father stepped out of the house on Thursday morning and was removing the branches of trees that fell on the ground due to strong wind. When Sachin touched the branches of the trees lying on the ground, he got electrocuted. After hearing his father screaming, Sarojit rushed to his rescue. Before realising anything, the son touched his father and got electrocuted.

Both of them died at the spot. After being informed, the police reached the spot and recovered the two bodies.

The local residents found the father and his son lying on the ground dead. They immediately informed the matter to the local police station. The incident had triggered tension in the locality as a similar incident occurred in the district two days ago. It may be mentioned that a youth from Nadia's Tehatta died after being electrocuted while trying to save his mother who eventually survived.

Police said that the logs that were lying on the ground got electrocuted after the meter box collapsed. The local people said that if the victims would have called the employees of the power supply company, the accident could have been averted. The father must have learnt that the there is a possibility of electrocution as the meter box that has direct connection with the overhead electrical wire had collapsed.
