Chit fund agent commits suicide after investors give him ultimatum

A chit fund agent committed suicide after failing to return money of investors. The incident took place at Uluberia in Howrah in the wee hours of Thursday.

Police said the victim Sukdeb Polley was a resident of Choto Amsa village at Uluberia in Howrah.

A police officer said after speaking to the victim's wife, it was known that around 10 investors had come to their house last night and they had gave him a deadline to clear all their dues.

Sukdeb had collected a huge amount of money from several persons against chit fund schemes of two companies – Matri Bhumi and NVD. But the investors didn't get their money back. As a result, they had started chasing him to get back their money.

Sukdeb had assured them all help to get their money back. Despite trying his heart and soul, he had failed to give them the money back. Thus the investors had started chasing him repeatedly. The investors had even abused Sukdeb. After being insulted in such a way in front of his family members, Sukdeb consumed poison.

His wife found him writhing in pain on the floor of one of the rooms in their house and informed their neighbours. He was taken to Uluberia Hospital where he died in the wee hours.

His family members lodged a complaint with the police in this connection and demanded a proper probe saying that Sukdeb had deposited all their money to the chit fund companies.
