8 Bills to be tabled in next Assembly session on May 19

Eight Bills will be placed in the Assembly session that will commence on May 19.

The session will continue till May 30. An All Party Meeting was held in the chamber of Biman Bandyopadhyay on Tuesday afternoon. Congress and Left Front MLAs boycotted the meeting. However, they attended the meeting of the Business Advisory (BA) committee. Sujan Chakraborty and Biswanath Chowdhury of the Left Front and Asit Mitra and Manoj Chakraborty attended the BA committee meeting.

The Assembly session will start on May 19 with obituary references. A Bill relating to the Transport department will be placed on Monday. The BA committee will meet again next Tuesday to finalise the further schedule that will be followed in the Assembly. Two Bills relating to the Finance department will be placed in this session of the Assembly. However, it is not known whether a bill relating to GST will be placed in this session. A Bill relating to the appointment of pro Vice-Chancellors in Jadavpur and Kalyani universities will be placed in the Assembly. The state Panchayat and Rural Development department will also place a Bill empowering the panchayat members to contest in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections without tendering resignation.

The session is likely to be stormy as the Congress and CPI(M) will raise the issue of sharp rise in violence and attack on the supporters of the Opposition parties, allegedly by the Trinamool Congress. The leaders of the Opposition parties alleged that police had been harassing their supporters without any rhyme or reason.
