Café Ekante, the well-known restaurant in Eco Park, New Town, on Monday celebrated its second anniversary in a unique way.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had renamed the restaurant as Café Ekante and inaugurated it two years ago.
Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) has decided that those who will 'like' the Facebook page of Café Ekante will be given a 10 percent discount on the bill at the restaurant between May 16 and 19. Senior officials of HIDCO on Monday cut a cake to celebrate the occasion.
Café Ekante is another dream project of Mamata Banerjee which has shown that state-run restaurants can function properly if there is a will to work. The employees of Café Ekante are given training on how to deal with customers and listen to their complaints with patience and a smiling face. The restaurant has become very popular among foodies in Kolkata and getting a table on the weekends is a real problem. On occasions like Mother's Day, special lunch and dinner were served to customers and they were given two free tickets to Mother's Wax Museum.
During Durga Puja and Bengali New Year's Day, special menus are served. There is a house boat restaurant at Eco Park too and this has become equally popular. Café Ekante has become very popular among the Eco Park visitors. New Town's slogan is: "There is no dull moment in New Town. Here you can keep expecting the unexpected."
