Two state government employees received injuries in a road accident at Salt Lake on Monday, when a police car allegedly hit another car on the road. A Bidhannagar City Police source said that the car of Soumen Mitra, Additional Director General of Police (Training) allegedly hit another car near Salt Lake's Netaji Statue Island on Monday.
"Two staff members from the office of Commissioner for persons with disabilities were sitting in that car. Ranu Bhattacharjee, the Commissioner and Uma Sen, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) were injured. They were taken to a private hospital," said the source.
"Mitra was not inside the car when it met with the accident. His driver Rahul Banerjee and his security guard received injuries. They were also taken to the same private hospital," the source said.
Kolkata Police later took Mitra's car from the spot.
Bidhannagar City Police will investigate how the incident happened. The officers indicated that one car had disobeyed traffic rules just before the accident took place.
Some eyewitnesses informed the police that it was the police car which had hit the other car. The police car then hit a rickshaw standing on the side of the road as well as a security barricade. The claims made by the eyewitnesses are currently being verified by authorities.
