Arms dealer held from Judges Ghat

Police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Central Kolkata on Monday when he was trying to sell improvised guns and ammunition to some people.

According to the police, the accused, Pramod Yadav was originally from Banka district in Bihar. He was intercepted by the police when he assembled with the buyers at Gwalior Ghat or the Judges Ghat. Police said that the accused was involved in arms trading and his job was to bring arms from Bihar and sell them to criminal groups.

A senior officer of the Anti Rowdy Squad of the Kolkata Police said that two improvised 8 mm pistols and 10 rounds of cartridges were seized from his possession. According to the police, the buyers who came to meet Yadav to buy the arms fled from the spot apprehending arrest. Acting on a tip-off, the police came to know that the accused, an arms dealer from Bihar, would be visiting the area to hand over a consignment of arms. Police are also investigating if the accused is a part of any international arms smuggling racket.

Police are also trying to know whom the accused used to sell these weapons to. A detailed probe has been initiated in the connection. Police are interrogating Yadav to know who were the other persons involved in the arms smuggling racket. Police are also investigating if Yadav had any connection with the accused who were arrested from various parts of Hooghly on Sunday.
