Ten arrested from Rishra for robbery and theft

Hooghly police have arrested 10 dreaded criminals while conducting raids at various places in the district and recovered firearms from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted raids at various places on Saturday night. Police have recovered one pipe gun, one round of cartridge and some socket bombs from the possession of four persons who were picked up from Rishra. The accused were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days after being produced before a court. Police came to know that four miscreants were assembling near Delhi Road under Rishra police station to carry out a robbery in the area. A police team was therefore dispatched to apprehend the criminals.
The accused tried to flee the spot as they saw the police approaching. The policemen gave chase and caught them a few yards from where they had assembled. Police said the accused were all aged between 20 and 25 years and are involved in numerous crimes in various parts of the state. Another team of police personnel from Bhadreswar police station arrested two dacoits near a playground in the Aurobindapally area. In another incident, a joint team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Chinsura police raided a factory at Hooghly's Sahebgunj area and arrested four criminals who were already booked under various sections of the IPC for carrying out a theft at the factory.
Police said various cases are pending against the 10 accused who were arrested from different parts of the district on Saturday night. All are seasoned criminals and have been involved in various crimes throughout the state. Police are now trying to find out the names of those gang members who were also involved in these crimes. Authorities will continue the raids until they have nabbed all the culprits.
