2 arrested for attacking cop at bus stop

Bidhannagar City Police arrested two youth who allegedly beat up a police constable on Thursday. The investigation revealed that the youth were drunk when the incident took place.

"The policeman was standing at the bus stoppage and waiting for a bus to come. He was returning home after finishing his duty. One of the intoxicated youth accidentally hit him with his motorbike and he fell on the road," said a police source. "The policeman was trying to catch the culprit and take him to the New Town police station. But the youth attacked him there," a source added. The police constable managed to catch one of the youth with the help of other people standing there at the bus stoppage but the other fled from the spot.

The cop lodged an FIR with the New Town police station and a case was initiated. "We have arrested two persons in this case. One person was caught by the constable at the spot and other person was arrested later. The accused will be interrogated at length," said an officer.

Meanwhile, the constable was taken to a hospital for treatment. "The incident took place in the evening. Local residents and the people standing at the bus stop helped the policeman to catch one of the accused youth," said an eyewitness of the incident.
