Retired cop killed after dumper hits his bike on NH 2

A retired police officer was killed after the motorcycle he was riding on was hit by a dumper.
The incident occurred near on National Highway 2 near Jamuria in East Burdwan on Wednesday morning. The incident triggered tension in the area after the local residents ransacked the vehicle and staged a demonstration at the accident site protesting against the rash driving of the vehicles.
Police said that the victim, Sisir Kar (62), a retired police officer was riding his motorcycle along National Highway 2 when the dumper lost its control and hit the victim. A resident of Kalyanpur housing estate in Asansol, Kar was going to his house from Durgapur. When he was crossing Satgram area, a dumber loaded with coal lost control and hit the victim. The driver of the vehicle fled the spot immediately after the accident. The local residents rushed to the spot and found that the victim was lying in a pool of blood. They rescued the victim and sent him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
An irate mob completely damaged the vehicle. They put up road block on the NH 2 disrupting traffic. Vehicles were stranded leading to the inconveniences to the commuters. The block was lifted following the intervention of police. The locals alleged that cops did not take any steps to check rash driving. An eyewitness said that the loaded dumber was running at a high speed when the driver lost control.
The local residents staged demonstration in front of the police and demanded that the latter should control the speed limit of vehicles on the National Highway as accidents have become a regular phenomenon in the area. Despite repeated pleas, no action has been taken to check the upward speed limit in the area. Police have assured the local residents that they would consider their request. Police are, meanwhile, conducting raids to nab the accused driver.
