Racing between buses leads to death of conductor

Racing between two buses claimed the life of a conductor of one of the buses at Ultadanga on Wednesday morning.
The incident led to tension in the area and police went to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Police said the victim Uttam Rui Das was the conductor of a bus that ply on route KB 16. On Monday morning, a mini-bus was racing with the bus on route KB 16 which resulted in the accident. The buses were racing to get more passengers from Ultadanga and the mini-bus had been trying to overtake the other bus.
A police officer said that they came to know from people who witnessed the accident that the mini-bus was at a high speed. The driver couldn't control the bus while overtaking from right side of the other one and collided with it.
The conductor was standing at the gate of the bus and received severe injuries. Both the buses were partially damaged. Both the buses were packed with passengers during the morning rush hours. Passengers in the bus were left shocked and some fell ill due to the heavy jerk during the collision between the two buses.
Local people rushed to the spot and took the conductor to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where he was
declared brought dead. The police have seized the bus. The driver of the mini-bus had, somehow, managed to flee. The police initiated a search for the accused driver.
In another road accident near Tank Number eight at Salt Lake, a worker of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation was injured when a private car hit him while he was busy in his work. The worker,
Baidyanath Santra, is a resident of Sukantanagar in Salt Lake. He was taken to hospital where he was provided necessary treatment.
