The cyclonic winds and thundershowers uprooted a tree near the Melli Check Post in South Sikkim damaging a truck and killing the driver on the spot. The incident occurred at 7.30 am when the goods truck was plying from Jorethang in Sikkim to Siliguri. The tree was uprooted in the storm and fell on top of the truck. 26-year-old Pranesh Rai, the driver, lost his life. In another incident, an unidentified man in his mid-40s slipped and fell on the tracks and was run over by the Darjeeling Himalayan Railways steam loco joy ride leading to his death.
