Youth arrested for threatening, trying to bribe TMC MP

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday night arrested a youth from Bokaro in Jharkhand on charges of threatening and attempting to bribe TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee.
According to a CID officer of CID, Banerjee had lodged a complaint with Serampore police station on Saturday in this connection. The district police had sought help from the CID to arrest the accused and gave the phone number from which the MP had received the call. After tracking the number, the investigating officers came to know that the caller was from Bokaro. The caller was identified on Saturday night and a team of officers went to Bokaro on Sunday.
With the assistance of local police, the CID officers conducted a raid in the house of the accused Anurag Tiwari and arrested him. He was brought to Serampore on Tuesday and produced before the court.
He was remanded to police custody for further investigation. Sources said the accused youth confessed that he had made the calls to the MP. The CID officers also came to know that he had offered a bribe to Banerjee to help him get a ticket to fight in the Lok Sabha elections. A CID officer said that the youth is from an affluent family and he is an MBA in Human Resource. He works in a private company. The police are trying to ascertain the exact reason behind his calls to the MP offering him a bribe.
