A clandestine alliance between Congress, CPI(M) and BJP, a long-standing allegation by the Trinamool Congress supremo has come true in Pujali municipality in South 24 Parganas where elections will be held on May 14.
There will be election in seven municipalities on May 14 of which four are in the Hills. These civic bodies are Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Mirik. The three other municipalities where the polls will be held are Domkol in Murshidabad, Raigunj in North Dinajpur and Pujali in South 24 Parganas. The Congress and CPI(M) have inked an alliance and they are fighting together against Trinamool.
After securing second position in the by-election of Kanthi South Assembly constituency, the BJP has gathered additional momentum and has filed candidates in all the 16 seats in Pujali.
It was a Congress stronghold and Fazlul Haq was the chairman.
Haque, along with his associates, joined the TMC and over the years, the residents of Pujali have crossed the floor in013 and now, it is a Trinamool stronghold.
Meanwhile, an unofficial alliance has been made between the Congress, CPI(M) and BJP against the TMC.
The trio is highlighting the involved of TMC leaders in the multi-crore scam in Saradha and Narada. Last week, as many as 80 CPI(M) supporters joined the BJP followed by over 100 Congress workers who also joined the party. The BJP is going all out to create a dent in South 24 Parganas. There are around 34 booths in Pujali and around 28,000 voters.
Though the leaders of the Congress and CPI(M) have denied any such understanding with the "communal" BJP, political experts said the two parties have given candidates only in 12 seats and in case their support is required to form the board, they will support the BJP.
Though there are several factions in the TMC, all have been united.
The Trinamool workers are doing door-to-door campaign and are leaving no stone unturned to retain the civic body.
