2 killed, 6 injured in separate cases of accidents in state

Two persons were killed and six others were injured in three separate road accidents in the state on Sunday.

In one incident, a 26-year-old woman, Bina Ghorai died after being hit by a truck. The incident occurred near Mahishadal on the Haldia-Mecheda state highway at around 11 am on Sunday. Three other family members of the victim including two children also suffered injuries in the incident. The injured are Neel Ghorai (8), Sayan Ghorai (4) and the Ranjit Ghorai (29). The injured are undergoing treatment at Basulia primary health centre.

Police said that Ranjit was taking his two children and his sister-in-law to a local temple on his motorcycle. When they were heading towards Mahishadal on the state highway, a speeding truck suddenly hit the motorcycle from behind. The local residents rescued the victims and took them to the hospital where Bina was declared brought dead.

The driver of the truck fled from the spot leaving the vehicle at the accident ground. The local people staged a protest at against the rash driving of the vehicle. The incident had caused a huge traffic jam in the area. A hug contingent of police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Police are, meanwhile, conducting raids to nab the culprit.

In another accident Sadhan Tantabai (55), a resident of Raghunathpur area in Purulia was killed after being knocked down by a speeding dumper near Hiridhi bridge of Raghunathpur area. The accident took place on Sunday morning when he was returning home from a nearby place on his own bicycle. The incident occurred on state highway number 5. The local people rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and found the victim lying in a pool of blood. They rushed the victim to Purulia Sadar Hospital where he was declared brought dead. In the both the incidents police have seized the vehicles but are yet to make arrests.

In yet another case, three persons including the driver of a car received injuries when the car overturned after hitting another vehicle near Kasba on Saturday night. The injured persons were taken to a private hospital on the EM Bypass. Police said that the car was at a top speed on its way to Gariahat when the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit another vehicle and overturned.
