One dead after TMC party office blown off in attack

A Trinamool Congress leader was killed when the entire party office collapsed after bombs were hurled allegedly by people backed by the Opposition. The incident took place at around 5.30 pm on Sunday at Pichku Village at Ausgram in East Burdwan.

Police said that preliminary investigation revealed that the miscreants on four to five motorbikes attacked when around four of the party workers were sitting outside the office and the victim Sheikh Huntar was busy in some work inside. However, local CPI(M) leaders brushed aside the allegations.

The locals came out of their houses hearing the loud sound of explosion and noticed that the entire area was filled with dust as the party office of Trinamool Congress had collapsed. People from neighbouring houses rushed to the spot and initiated the rescue work.

A large contingent of police headed by senior police officers went to the spot. Police pickets have been posted in the area.

Meanwhile, miscreants attacked the house of a Trinamool Congress leader at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas late on Saturday night for protesting against different illegal activities that had been taking place in the area for the past few months.

Police said Hiren Roy, a resident of Belgachia in Baruipur, was not in the house when the miscreants attacked his house.

A police officer said after speaking to local people that around five to six persons with their faces covered with pieces of cloths attacked the leader's house. The miscreants hurled bombs outside his house and opened fire in the air.

They had tried to break open the door of Roy's house but failed as some of the neighbours started coming out of their houses hearing the cries of the leader's family members from inside their house.

Roy went to the police station early on Sunday morning and lodged a complaint in this connection. Soon after starting a probe, the police arrested one Bapi Das from one of his hideouts and are interrogating him to get the whereabouts of other miscreants.
