The police have served a notice to actor Bikram Chatterjee summoning him to turn up at Tollygunge police station within seven days beginning on Thursday.
Bikram was released on Thursday from a private hospital where he was undergoing treatment after the accident. He was admitted to the hospital with injuries since the day he met with the accident in which celebrated model Sonika Chauhan died.
A police officer said he has been summoned for questioning as Sonika's maternal uncle B Michael had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that he was in an inebriated state when he was driving the car and it was his reckless driving that claimed Sonika's life.
It may be recalled that Sonika was killed and Bikram injured when their car collided against a road side wall near Lake Mall on Rashbehari Avenue in the wee hours on Sunday. The police had lodged a suo muto complaint on the same day the accident took place under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of causing death due to negligence and rash driving. Later, probe has been initiated under Section 304 of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) on the basis of Sonika's maternal uncle's complaint.
The police have collected clothes that Bikram wore at the time of the accident and have been sent for forensic tests. The police have also directed the hospital authorities to give them reports of all the blood tests those were conducted on Bikram soon after he was admitted.
Bikram went home on Thursday afternoon after being released by the hospital. The police had directed the hospital authorities to inform them when Bikram will be released and cops from Tollygunj police station visited the hospital before the actor was released.
The police will also take statement of some friends of Bikram as well as Sonika. In case Bikram is proved guilty on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder then the punishment would be imprisonment for a maximum term of 10 years.
