Kailash Vijaybargiya, BJP's national secretary in-charge of Bengal on Thursday held a meeting of workers in Bhowanipore, the constituency of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Vijaybargiya urged party workers to visit every house and build contacts with the residents. Though BJP does not have any base in Bhowanipore, its candidate Chandra Kumar Bose got 26,299 votes in the 2016 Assembly polls.
Mamata Banerjee got 65,520 votes and Dipa Dasmunshi of the Congress got 40, 219 votes.
BJP leaders told the workers that if the organisation could be strengthened in the area, then it would not be difficult to defeat Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 Assembly elections.
He said that the workers would have to work seriously and should not get provoked. "We do not believe in violence and with the help of peace we will be able to win over the hearts of the residents," he said adding BJP's pocket vote in the area was very strong and steps should be taken to increase the strength of the party in these pockets. Actor-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee was given the charge to organise workers.
"Be fearless and work seriously and do not hesitate to contact state leaders if TMC tries to oppress you. Go to people and talk about the development under Narendra Modi."
