Rival gang members gun down one, injure two others in Hooghly

A 34-year-old man was shot dead and two received bullet injuries during a gang war that broke out late on Tuesday night at Guptipara near Balagarh in Hooghly.

Police said that it was a fallout of March 9's incident in which a youth Tarak Biswas was murdered in Rabindranagar area at Chinsurah in Hooghly and a goon Bishal Das was involved in the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that members of Bishal's rival gang visited Guptipara area last night after receiving a tip-off that he had taken shelter in the area. All the members of the rival gang were from Kalyani in North 24 Parganas. Both the areas are situated on the opposite banks of river Hooghly and often they engage in brawls over different issues.

Police came to know from local people that the miscreants from Kalyani had come to the area on motorbikes and opened fire finding some members of the rival gang sitting on a bench beside the road.
Bishal's group couldn't retaliate as they were attacked all of a sudden and three youth received bullet injuries. The miscreants left the area on their motorbikes soon after the incident.

Local people and police took the injured youth to a hospital where one Asim Mondal was declared brought dead. Meanwhile two others named Loknath Mondal and Digbijay Biswas were admitted to Chisurah Imambara Hospital with bullet injuries. Later, the duo was shifted to a hospital in the city when their condition deteriorated.

A large contingent of police went to the spot soon after the incident. They arrested two persons in this connection and seized a car. There were some firearms in the car, which were also seized.

In another incident, a youth, Angshuman Mal, was shot at when he was returning home last night on his motorbike with a friend riding pillion. The incident took place at Peyarabagan in Chinsurah, which is close to the place where the gang war took place. Though local people claimed that this is completely a separate incident, police are suspecting that it is also the fallout of the gang war. Angshuman was also admitted in Chinsurah Imambara Hospital.
