Kol Police STF arrests 40-year-old with counterfeit notes worth Rs 4.96L

KOLKATA: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested a 40-year-old man from Amherst Street on Friday on charges of possessing counterfeit currency.

Police seized the counterfeit currency worth Rs 4.96 lakh from the person.

Acting on a tip off, the officers of the STF conducted a raid and arrested Ferajul Seikh, who is a resident of Babupara, Pardeonapur village at Baishnabnagar in Malda.

A team comprising officers of the STF went to Shraddhananda Park near Amherst Street at Muchipara after receiving the tip off and arrested the person. They found him carrying a bag containing counterfeit notes. The counterfeit currencies were in denomination of Rs 2,000. He will be produced before the court on Saturday.

Police are now trying to find out from whom he had received the counterfeit currency. They suspect that he came here a few days ago to handover a part of the counterfeit currency to his counterpart in the city. Police suspect that he also had plans to circulate a part in the city markets.

Meanwhile, cops have arrested two persons on charges of stealing Rs 19.76 lakh from the office of one Manish Chowdhury at Burabazar. The duo used to work at the office and they have admitted to have stolen the money during the interrogation.

Police have managed to recover Rs 17.90 lakh and are continuing the probe to recover the remaining part of the stolen money.
