KMC's cardio-vascular diabetic centres to be operational soon
Kolkata: Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will come up with cardio-vascular diabetic centres in each of the 16 boroughs which will become operational from the first week of March.
The special centre will function every Thursday and eminent doctors will be available for consultation. "We will be referring those patients who require specialised treatment for cardiology or diabetes from our urban primary health centres to this one. Insulin and requisite machines will be available free of cost," said Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh who is also in charge of the KMC's Health department.
The KMC on Saturday signed two MoUs with the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) — one for capacity building of primary care physicians in the management of cardiovascular disease and stroke and the second one for a certificate course in healthcare quality.
"The training will equip our medical officers with the latest advances in the management of such diseases according to the latest international and national guidelines," Ghosh added.
It may be mentioned that in India cardio-vascular diseases have become the leading cause of mortality while the World Health Organisation has stated that India will become the diabetic capital of the world in 2025.
