KMC to treat COPD patients

Kolkata: If suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) or breathing-related trouble, then contact the health unit of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) without wasting time.

The KMC has 144 health units, one in each ward. The ward health unit is headed by a medical practitioner.

The KMC in association with the National Allergy Asthma Bronchitis Institute (NAABI) has given training to its medical staff in COPD and other breathing-related diseases. The duration of the training was for six months. The trainees were given both theoretical and

practical training.

The KMC is given medicines free of cost along with the spacing device, which helps the patients to use the inhalers easily. The lung function test of the patients is conducted at the KMC's health centres.

Season change and erratic weather pose a serious threat to COPD patients whose number are on the rise. The KMC doctors are competent to treat COPD patients and medicine is given free of cost.

As the KMC clinics are free, there are people who think that the treatment is not done seriously at the clinics. Not only medicines, tests are also conducted free of cost.

The KMC employees are currently given training in diabetes by experts at the KMC's training institute.

Many poor people are suffering from diabetes and they do not know where to go and whom to approach. The KMC clinics will give total treatment of diabetes free of cost.
