KMC to join hands with Central govt employees to carry out anti-larvae drives

In a major boost to its drive against mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and malaria, the Kolkata Municipal
Corporation (KMC) has decided to take up joint drives within the premises of more than a dozen Central
government offices located in the city involving the latter's officials.
A meeting chaired by member Mayor-in-Council (Health) Atin Ghosh, was held at the KMC headquarters on Tuesday with top representatives from the Eastern Railway, Metro Railways, BSNL, India Post, Eastern Command and various other departments.
"Our officials often face difficulties while conducting drives at Central government offices. There had been cases when our officials have even not been allowed to enter in some offices citing security reasons. So we felt that things need to be sorted out to ensure that there is no communication gap. From now onwards, our officials while going for drives will carry identity cards," a senior official of KMC's Health department who attended the meeting said.
The civic body handed over a list of a number of problem areas in some Central government
offices that are acting as
breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
"We have also issued them about the guidelines in taking up cleanliness at some places as a preventive measure. Our team will also visit the sites and we will work in coordination," the official added.
The Eastern Railways has a dozen places under its jurisdiction which are in serious need of drives against mosquitoes. The civic body team has also earmarked half a dozen places in the Kolkata Metro including the under-construction East-West Metro project which needs serious attention.
