KMC to initiate order for last phase of work under ward 58

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation will soon initiate the order for the last phase development work for basic civic amenities in as many as eight places under ward 58.

These places have infrastructure no better than a village and are in a serious need of development work, the first phase of which has already been completed.

"The decision of initiating the work order for the second phase of work has been approved in the Member Mayor-in-Council (MMiC) meeting today (Saturday). If the weather conditions remain satisfactory we are hopeful of completing the work in four months' time," said Swapan Samaddar, MMiC (Bustee Development).

It may be mentioned that the first phase of work, which involved around Rs 9.16 crore, has already completed and the utilization certificate has been submitted to the state government. The eight villages in the ward that have witnessed development after several decades include Khanberia, Uchupota, Natunbasti, Durgapur, Anantabadal to name a few. "Now, we will start the second phase work and funds will be allocated soon based on the work proposal that has been sent," a senior official of the Bustee Development department said.

The official informed that the development work includes thorough repair and coating of asphalt on kaccha roads, creating infrastructure for sanitation and hygiene, making arrangements for potable water supply, creating

drainage facilities etc.

The second phase of work will involve around Rs 9.74 crore and after completion of work the epithet of 'village' will no longer exist.

The MMiC meeting on Saturday also gave the nod to work order regarding the development of various slums under Boroughs 3, 5, 8 and 14 including parts of ward 90, 35 , 36 etc. "These places will also see development in basic infrastructure," Samaddar said.
