Health department officials of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Thursday found Aedes Aegypti larvae that cause dengue from a construction site on Dr Deodhar Rahaman Road in South Kolkata.
A KMC team led by Atin Ghosh, member, Mayor-in-Council (Health) along with senior officials of the department and health workers visited a site where construction of a building is going on. The raiding team found Aedes Aegypti larvae in an empty bottle, earthen pot and an iron container.
A notice was served to the builder to take steps to clean the premises. The builder was asked to spray either diesel or kerosene in the premises which works as mosquito repellent.
The KMC is regularly conducting anti larvae-drives which are led by Atin Ghosh. The residents of adjacent buildings were asked to clean the containers where water is stored at least once a week and ensure that the underground reservoirs and overhead tanks are properly covered.
The KMC has opened 15 dengue clinics in the city. In addition to this, there is a doctor in every ward where people with fever can go and get their blood examined free of cost.
The doctors in the health units treat all sorts of diseases free of cost.
Senior civic officials regretted that as in KMC clinics blood samples are tested free of cost, many people do not come thinking that tests are being done unprofessionally. But KMC follows the guidelines of World Health Organisation (WHO) to treat patients suffering from dengue and malaria and medicines are given to them free of cost.
It may be mentioned that because of KMC's elaborate plans to combat mosquito-borne diseases, the civic bodies situated in the fringe areas like South Dum Dum and Dum Dum municipalities and Bidhanagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) are regularly exchanging notes with KMC for effective anti-larvae drives.
