KMC signs MoU with South Dhaka City Corporation
Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dhaka South City Corporation, to exchange the best practices of the two cities. Mayor of South Dhaka Sayeed Khokon visited the KMC headquarters and held a meeting with Mayor Firhad Hakim.
"They showed interest in the transformation that the city has undergone in the last few years. We shared our experience in the area of solid waste management. The Dhaka South City Mayor had attended our Bengal Global Business Summit on Thursday and also paid a visit to Eco Park," Hakim said.
The Mayor of South Dhaka pitched for the development of relationship between Bengal and Bangladesh and said that both the cities will work together to make Kolkata and Dhaka 'clean and green' with all possible civic amenities, so that the future generations are benefitted.
"We have expertise in certain areas while the KMC has expertise in some other areas. We will work together towards exchange of the best practices," Khokon added.
He spoke highly of the leadership qualities of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that Banerjee is loved and respected very much in Bangladesh as well.
"I can tell you that your Chief Minister is very popular among the people of Dhaka as well," he added.
According to sources in KMC, the areas that have been identified for collaboration include solid waste management, healthcare, education, traffic management etc. "Collaboration of Kolkata and Dhaka is essential for having a sustained relationship of friendship. More such visits will follow from both the sides," the South Dhaka Mayor said.
