'KMC has not hiked parking fees for Pujas'

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation will take stringent action against agencies charging more parking fees during the pujas, Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said on Monday.
Chatterjee said the civic authorities have received several complaints that some parking cooperatives were charging more fees from car owners. He said any complaint against a parking fees collecting agency will be looked into and errant agencies will be blacklisted. The Deputy Commissioner of Police has been asked to look into the matter.
The civic authorities received several complaints that some cooperatives are taking more fees from car owners. When the car owners refuse to pay, parking fee collectors pick up a quarrel and use expletives and often physically heckle the car owners.
The agencies tell the car owners that KMC has hiked parking fees before the Pujas.
On receiving such complaints, the civic authorities conducted investigation and found the allegations to be true. Chatterjee said that any car owner facing any problem with parking fee collectors may call up KMC at 8478888888 to register his complaint.
The KMC will conduct an inquiry and action will be taken against the errant fee collecting agencies. Chatterjee clarified that the KMC has not hiked the parking fees.
It may be mentioned that the civic authorities are conducting drives at night and putting clamps on the wheels of vehicles that are parked illegally.
The KMC has imposed parking fees at Rs 400 per month to park vehicles on the road at night.
