KMC finds Aedes Aegypti larvae in city school

Aedes Aegypti larvae, which are carriers of dengue, were found in a well-known school in South Kolkata by a team of Kolkata Municipal Corporation which visited its premises on Friday morning.
Atin Ghosh, member, Mayor-in-Council (Health) along with senior officials of the health wing comprising chief vector control officer Debashis Biswas, deputy chief municipal health officer and others visited the school. The larvae were found on the roof of a makeshift shed. The school authorities have been asked to remove the shed immediately. The KMC teams are visiting schools, hospitals and office premises as a part of its drive against malaria and dengue.
Aedes Aegypti larvae were found at ITI Ballygunge. The authorities have been asked to clear accumulated water from unused empty pots and buckets. The civic team expressed satisfaction over the upkeep of the institution though. Garbage is being cleaned regularly and water is not being allowed to accumulate on the roof and in other areas.
The civic team found garbage and accumulated water inside the premises of a women ITI in Ballygunge. Garbage has not been cleaned regularly and empty unused pots carrying water were found. The KMC officials requested the principal to take appropriate steps immediately. The larvae of Culex mosquito were found too.
Atin Ghosh said special drives will be undertaken at the premises where construction work is going on. The civic team visited a site where construction of a building is being carried out on Bondel Road and found mosquito larvae. He had requested the builder to clean the container where water is stored at least once a week.
Ghosh said drives to combat malaria and dengue will be conducted regularly by KMC teams. KMC conducts the drive throughout the year but more frequent drives are conducted during the onset of monsoon.
The city is divided into zones and the KMC has opened laboratories to collect blood samples free of cost in every ward. It has also opened laboratories exclusively to test dengue cases. Also, KMC gives free medicines to people afflicted with the disease. Ghosh said KMC drives are not enough to combat malaria and dengue, awareness of people should be increased. He urged the citizens to follow dos and don'ts issued by KMC to combat the disease.
