Kite string injures biker on Maa flyover, steps yet to be taken

Kolkata: A biker has again become a victim of the Chinese kite string on Maa flyover.

On Thursday, a person identified as Subhojit Sur Roy Chowdhury got his face injured while riding his bike on the flyover. He was immediately removed to a nursing home where the doctors treated

his wounds.

According to Roy Chowdhury, on Thursday around 3:30 pm, he was going to Beliaghata from Howrah on his bike.

He availed AJC Bose Road flyover and then Maa Flyover to reach Eastern Metropolitan (EM) Bypass. After crossing the Park Circus 4 number bridge area on Maa Flyover, he sensed some irritation on his nose.

Immediately, he stopped his bike and placed his hands on his nose only to find blood coming out. Within a while, he discovered that blood had dripped down to his apparel.

Some more bike riders stopped to help Roy Chowdhury. Later, it was discovered that his throat also got slit due to the kite string. He somehow managed to stop the blood flow using a handkerchief and went to a nursing home in Phoolbagan on his bike.

Similar incidents have taken place on Maa Flyover during the past one year. On December 2, a doctor from SSKM hospital identified as Dr Saikat Chakraborty got injured due to a similar kite string. He was riding his scooter on Maa Flyover to reach home in Nayabad. But near Park Circus 4 number bridge his neck and face got entangled in the kite string. He immediately stopped his scooter and tried to remove the thread. Meanwhile, a few drivers, who noticed the incident, informed police. Despite repeated requests to the residents of the adjacent areas not to fly kites, no one bothers to follow the request.

To curb the menace, police administration has already decided to put up fence in some parts of Maa flyover to prevent kite string falling on the flyover.
