'Kind' miscreants leave SIM cards, Rs 2,000 behind after robbing man
Kolkata: An elderly person was robbed by some miscreants late on Monday night in Ranikuthi. As they were leaving, the victim requested the miscreants to leave the SIM cards as the mobile numbers are registered for booking LPG cylinders and other utility services.
According to sources, retired railway employee Amal Basu resides at his house in Ranikuthi alone, as his wife had passed away a few months ago. At around 2 am on Monday, Basu saw two men standing beside his bed as he woke up from sleep.
The duo reportedly asked Basu not to scream and assured that if he complied, he would not be hurt. After that, they told Basu to hand over the keys to the almirah. As soon as they got the keys, the miscreants tied him up.
The duo then ransacked the room and robbed gold jewellery and Rs 30,000 in cash. While leaving, they took Basu's mobile phones and untied him.
He reportedly requested them not to take the jewellery as they belonged to one of his neighbours who had gone out of town. However, the duo did not bother to hear his plea.
Later, when Basu requested them to leave the SIM cards as he needed them to book LPG cylinder and avail other utility services. Hearing this, one of the miscreants removed the SIM cards from the mobile phones and handed those over to Basu. They also gave him Rs 2,000 to pay for gas and food.
After almost an hour Basu was able to untie himself and went to his son's house nearby. Later on Tuesday, a complaint was lodged at the Jadavpur police station.
